The implementation of the Act on Environmental Impact Assessment Procedure in Finland has now been evaluated for the first time. On the whole, the objectives of the law have been well met. Each year, the assessment procedure is applied for about 30 to 50 projects with significant environmental impact. These projects most commonly involve waste collection, extraction of natural resources, and traffic management.
