The EU has published an energy road map to 2050 which explore five decarbonising scenarios. Scenarios involving more energy efficiency and renewables will cost about the same as if Europe continues to rely heavily on fossil fuels and nuclear. Meeting the EU's climate goal for 2050 means CO2 emissions from the power sector will have to drop by more than 90%.
