The European Commission has published two reports on the condition of EU soils. This may help resurrect the draft directive on the topic which stalled some years ago in the face of opposition from some of the Member States.
One report notes that five years after the EU’s thematic strategy on soil protection the problem is still not being adequately monitored.
The second report, from the Joint Research Centre, gives an overview of the ‘soil problem’ in the EU.
